Specialized Track in Hispanic Ministry

Our Lady of Guadalupe
Our Lady of Guadalupe (Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe) is one of the most recognizable symbols of Hispanic faith.

Hispanic Ministry in the United States

Hispanic Catholics compose a vibrant and growing part of the Catholic Church in the United States. A great number of parishes offer Masses, liturgical and sacramental celebrations, and catechetical instruction in Spanish. Most dioceses have offices or staff coordinating or supporting Hispanic ministry.

In June 2023, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops adopted a National Pastoral Plan for Hispanic/Latino Ministry. The plan aims to strengthen Hispanic ministry in the United States over the next 10 years.

Desiring to assist in the strengthening of Hispanic ministry and recognizing the need for well-prepared priests dedicated in-part or in-full to this ministry, St. Mary’s Seminary and University has established a specialized track in Hispanic ministry.

The Specialized Track

The track is fully integrated into the four-year theology program of priestly formation and academics at St. Mary’s. Seminarians accepted to the track will, therefore, simultaneously complete:

SMSU, Archdiocese of Baltimore, and Mexican American Catholic College logos.
Collaborating organizations in the Specialized Hispanic Track at St. Mary’s.
  1. all intellectual, pastoral, human and spiritual requirements of the Program of Priestly Formation in the United States of America (6th edition),
  2. both the M.Div. and S.T.B. degrees,
  3. the track’s three units of linguistic and pastoral immersion, in which dedicated academic courses and pastoral internships is akin to 15 credits (the equivalent to one full-time semester of studies).

The specialized track in Hispanic ministry at St. Mary’s Seminary and University has been developed in close collaboration with the Archdiocese of Baltimore (AoB) and the Mexican-American Catholic College (MACC) in San Antonio, TX.
