The Associated Archives at St. Mary’s Seminary & University opened in the spring of 2002. Located on the campus of the nation’s first Roman Catholic seminary, this program brings together the archives of the Archdiocese of Baltimore (est. 1789), St. Mary's Seminary & University (est. 1791), and the Associated Sulpicians of the United States (U.S. Province est. 1903), making it one of the most significant repositories for records relating to the early history of the Catholic Church in the United States.

A state-of the-art-facility was built to house the three archives. We offer researchers a spacious reading room in a climate-controlled environment that has a reference library and a digital reader/printer for viewing our microfilm collections. Researchers are able to access the collections through the existing card catalog system and typed finding aids. Click here to read a description of our open collections.

Please note that we do not take requests over the phone. We require that all requests be submitted in writing by using one of our forms, by letter, or by e-mail.

Important Notice to Our Visitors

The archives will close at noon on Fridays between May 21, 2010 and August 13, 2010.

The main parking lot at St. Mary’s will be closed July 19, 2010 - August 20, 2010 for a resurfacing project. There will be no access to the front of the building (including the library) during this period. Follow the signs to the temporary main entrance at the Center for Continuing Formation located in the rear of the building. This will be the entrance for all visitors. We apologize for the inconvenience.

Please note that while we try to meet the special needs of researchers, we do not allow infants, toddlers, or small children to be brought into the archives. Students under the age of 18 will need to be accompanied by an adult.
